October 2026
Hello Volunteers
There is still work to be done before the snow flies.
and we'll start at DAINES PARK
on THURSDAY OCTOBER 29 at 9:00 am
A persimmon sapling and the 2 hazelnut seedlings need to be transplanted away from the adjacent parking lot. Being right in the pathway of where snow removal crews were piling snow, it was just by luck they survived last winter.
There are 3 Catalpa, one American Chestnut and one Shellbark Hickory that need to be planted. They've been in pots since last year. They need to be planted this fall. I've suggested to Tim McCulloch the Perth Pool, the fire dept (Scotch Line) and Conlon Farm. I'll have that decision by Thursday.
We'll focus on getting these seedlings planted first and then move on to securing the fencing and adding mulch to seedlings in all the parks. This work was done on most of the seedlings during the season so it's more to ensure they are all good for the winter.
Watering may be needed due to the recent stretch of warm sunny days without any moisture.
Please bring a shovel, trowel, pails, and a tarp if you have one for digging 6 new holes.
Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!
Thanks, Kate
